AutoDiag Coilpacks
Designed for racing, the HP Ignition AutoDiag coilpacks are equipped with an additional component visible on the top, monitoring the ignition. This permanent monitoring is performed according to well-defined criteria, such as the secondary discharge time. When a cylinder encounters ignition issues, a red LED is activated on the corresponding coilpack in order to help troubleshooting (defective spark plug, for example).
When starting the engine, all the coilpacks activate their LEDs for 5 seconds then switch off simultaneously, confirming the correct operation of the AutoDiag feature. If a coilpack's LED remains on (or comes back on later), it means that the corresponding cylinder is having an ignition issue. HP Ignition AutoDiag coilpacks are ideal for competition where they facilitate technical interventions and maintenance, and speed up troubleshooting in the paddocks.

The Coilpack's Role
An essential component of a spark-ignition engine, the function of the coil is to power the spark plugs by generating a high voltage current (20,000 volts) starting from the low voltage current (12 volts) of the battery via magnetic induction. This "transformer" consists of a soft iron core which strengthens the role of the magnetic field, a primary coil supplied with 12 V made up of hundreds of mini wires, and a secondary coil with thousands of small diameter wires capable of generating high voltage. A quality coil must be able to withstand heat and humidity, and be properly insulated from splashes of oil and other harmful gases.
