It should be noted that Toyota has marketed in Japan a special edition of the Mk3, the Turbo A, limited to 500 units for the purposes of group A homologation. It was powered by a 7M-GTE producing 270 hp thanks to an upgraded turbo, a new air intake and a large intercooler, and featured a black livery, leather interior and reworked suspensions. Also in Japan, the Mk4's 2JZ-GTE has been equipped with VVT-i technology since 1997.
