Loctite 648 is a retaining compound that seals cylindrical fitting parts to prevent loosening and leakage due to shock or vibration. With its low viscosity, it offers a high-strength bond suitable, for example, to retention of parts with a clearance or interference fit, such as gears and sprockets on gearbox shafts and rotors on electric motor shafts.
This acrylic retaining compound is effective on active metals such as brass and copper, but also on passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminium and plated surfaces. It tolerates slight contamination from industrial oils (motor oil, rust inhibitors, cutting fluids, etc.) and is fluorescent so it can be checked under UV light.
