Loctite 518 sealant is used to make flat, medium-strength flange gaskets by curing when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. This single-component acrylic resin is used on rigid iron, aluminum and steel flanged mating surfaces. It forms a flexible, chemically resistant seal that will not tear or decay.
Packaged in gel form, the product fills gaps up to 0.25 mm and cures even in the presence of light surface contamination (cutting fluids, lubricants, anti-corrosion fluids, etc.). Typical applications include sealing close fitting joints between rigid metal faces and flanges as a form-in-place gasket, such as gearbox and engine casings, etc.
