Changing a steering wheel allows for modification of the driving position and can be good in road use or on track for training sessions and competitions. Depending on the use of the vehicle, care should be taken to choose a model with appropriate specifications.
For the practice of drifting, it is advisable to choose a steering wheel with a smooth and uniform rim favoring quick moves, while for grip driving, a model with notches and bulges will ensure an excellent prehension. There are full round wheels as well as models with flat bottom and / or top. The upholstery of the wheel can be made of classic or perforated leather, suede, Alcantara, wood, polyurethane or other materials.
There are steering wheels of different sizes, the small ones requiring smaller movements but also more effort for maneuvering at parking speeds than the larger models. Another point to take into account is dish: this is the distance from the mounting surface to the center line of the steering wheel grip. The deeper a steering wheel is, the closer it is to the driver.
A steering wheel can be equipped with various accessories: apart from the hub needed for its installation, it can be combined with a spacer to modify the driving position or with a quick release system which allows it to be removed from the column.
