Ferodo Racing Brake Pads Specifications

Ferodo Racing produces brake pads to the highest international standards at Federal Mogul's specialist factory in Italy. Each brake pad undergoes a total of 26 separate quality checks during manufacture to ensure the product is of the highest quality. The pad back-plates are made from high-tensile steel and precisely dimensioned to minimise deformation in extreme conditions and ensure rapid, even transmission of brake system pressure to the pads.

Most Ferodo Racing pads incorporate a thermal underlayer between the backing-plate and the friction material to reduce the operating temperature of the brake caliper to as low as 80°C and significantly reduce the risk of fluid boiling, which causes a "spongy" pedal feel. Unlike many competitor products, Ferodo pads are kind on brake discs. The manufacturer's philosophy is not to increase pad life at the expense of excessive disc wear.

All Ferodo Racing brake pads are designed to operate with a relatively constant coefficient of friction (mu) over a wide range of temperatures, pressures and vehicle speeds, providing a linear response to pedal pressure and a high level of control. Last but not least, they have a very wide range of applications and can be used for virtually any purpose.

Ferodo Racing pads are available in different compounds, identified by a specific suffix: for example, DS2500 compound has the suffix H in its part number. The presence of the letter B in the suffix (e.g. GB) indicates that the pad set has undergone a high-temperature soak during the production process to significantly speed up the bedding stage.

• DS Performance: An ideal compound for sporty road use, offering a "racing" pedal feel and long disc life. Average coefficient of friction of 0.46 over a temperature range of 0°-460°C. Road-legal, ECE R90-compliant.
• DS2500 (-H): A compound designed for track days and races with low braking requirements. Average coefficient of friction of 0.41 over a temperature range of 0°-500°C. Road use subject to legislation.
• FER4003 (-C): A compound developed specifically for single-seater formulas and compatible with occasional rally use for light and medium applications. Very short bedding time and excellent bite. Average coefficient of friction of 0.46 over a temperature range of 100°-550°C. Not suitable for road use.
• DS3000 (-R): A versatile, robust compound suitable for touring car, rally, single-seater and track racing with OE brakes. Average coefficient of friction of 0.48 over a temperature range of 200°-650°C. Not suitable for road use.
• DS1.11 (-W/WB): A special endurance compound combining long life and low disc wear for single-seater, touring car and GT races with OE brakes. Average coefficient of friction of 0.46 for a temperature range of 200°-750°C. Not suitable for road use.
• DS Uno (-Z/ZB): A semi-endurance compound for severe applications used in rally, touring car, GT, single-seater and track racing with OE brakes. Average coefficient of friction of 0.48 over a temperature range of 200°-750°C. Not suitable for road use.
• TL180 (-TL180): A compound with a very high coefficient of friction, ideal for intensive track use with powerful GTs, sprint and endurance races. Average coefficient of friction greater than 0.50 over a temperature range of 300°-850°C. Not suitable for road use.
• TL66 (-TL66): A compound for the very tough conditions encountered in GT, rally, touring car and severe track racing. It stands out for its very long life, strong bite and high level of control. Average coefficient of friction of 0.52 over a temperature range of 300°-800°C. Not suitable for road use.
• DS3.12 (-G/GB): A compound with a high coefficient of friction and excellent bite, recommended for sprint and medium duration races (up to 6 hours) in GT, V8, stock cars and severe track use. Average coefficient of friction of 0.53 over a temperature range of 300°-850°C. Not suitable for road use.
