The exhaust gas recirculation system (or EGR valve) of the Mazda MX-5 is activated at cruising speed and redirects some of the gases into the intake to achieve better fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. However, because of the way it works, it can clog the intake manifold and many users decide to delete it.

If this solution, which consists in taking out this device, does not directly increase engine performance (at full load, the EGR valve remains closed), it can be useful on the racetrack because it removes weight from the car and makes it easier to work on the engine.
