Accusump Oil Accumulator Specifications

Designed by Canton Racing Products, this Accusump accumulator pre-lubricates the engine prior to start-up and protects it while driving in the event of oil pressure drops. The 3L model is ideal for V8 and high horsepower V6 and 4 cylinder engines.

This accumulator has a standard pressure gauge for checking the pressure in the unit and is supplied without a valve by default. The Accusump is installed on the oil circuit via a sandwich adaptor or a "T" to be fixed on the outlet hose of your oil cooler.

How it works:

The purpose of this system is to collect pressurised oil from the engine and discharge it later. When the engine shuts down, the oil pressure remains stored in the Accusump. On start-up, the pressurised oil is released into the engine to pre-lubricate it.

Once the oil pump has taken over, the lubricant is pumped back into the Accusump and the pressure in the system is then balanced with engine's oil pressure. When driving, if the pressure drops, the Accusump releases its oil reserve again and keeps the engine lubricated until the engine's oil pressure comes back to normal. The duration of this "buffer" varies from 15 to 60 seconds depending on the size and speed of the engine. In hard driving and racing conditions, the Accusump fills and discharges automatically when needed during cornering, acceleration and braking.

Valve choice:

For hard core racing use, it is possible to opt for a manual valve which you can mount directly on the accumulator or anywhere convenient along the feed line. It is then essential to open the valve before starting the engine and close it before shutting the engine off.

The use of a standard electric valve offers superior convenience. This allows the accumulator to refill slowly after any oil discharge and is perfect for vehicles in daily use. The electric valve can be operated remotely from a dash-mounted switch or wired directly into the ignition for automatic opening/closing depending on whether the ignition is in the "on" or the "off" "position.

For those looking for faster refill rate and increased protection, the EPC (Electric Pressure Control) valve is the ultimate solution especially suited to race cars. It incorporates a "smart" valve that holds the pressure in the Accusump at its maximum level until you need it. This EPC valve allows the accumulator to release oil only if the oil pressure drops below a preset value and prevents it from refilling until the pressure exceeds this threshold. It can be wired in the same way as the standard electric valve.

Caution: the manufacturer advises against using its product without a valve (excessive oil discharge into the oil pan when the engine is off, loss of pre-lubrication capacity, etc.).
