The Legend of Le Mans

The Legend of Le Mans

Gulf's involvement in motor sport dates back to 1936, but it is of course thanks to its exploits at the 24 Hours of Le Mans that the company has gained international recognition and a lasting place in the hearts of fans. Gulf won the legendary Sarthe endurance race 3 times, in 1968 and 1969 with the Ford GT40 of the John Wyer Automotive Engineering team and in 1975 with the Mirage GR8 of Gulf Research Racing. It was also during this period that the famous blue and orange livery was introduced. Steve McQueen, who played a racing driver from the Gulf team in the 1971 film Le Mans, also helped anchor the brand in history.
