This page is dedicated to the various pipes that make up a high performance exhaust system. Each of these elements can improve the engine response, increase horsepower thanks to a better flow of gases, reduce the weight of the exhaust usually due to a stainless steel construction, and bring a more sporty tone to the vehicle.
There are de-cat pipes which fully remove the catalytic converter known to restrain the gas flow. Sports catalysts, on the other hand, are less restrictive than the OEM part and reduce back pressure while benefiting from effective emission control properties to pass roadworthiness tests.
The downpipe is placed after the turbo and can sometimes replace a primary or secondary catalytic converter. The overpipe, used on the Flat-4 of the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, is the part between the manifold and the catalytic converter which goes above the stabilizer bar and the subframe.
You can also find intermediate pipes, elements housed between the catalytic converter and the muffler, as well as Y-pipes for V6 engines, made up of two tubes at the outlet of the manifolds leading to the exhaust.
